Sovereign Missionary Spirit of God
"The Church of Philippi emerges solely out of the sovereign work of the sovereign missionary Spirit of God."
The way the Philippian church started is incredible, through instances of miracle after miracle. Miracles that could only be oriented by God.
When DJ said this it reminded me of 1 Corinthians 3:7- "So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth."
So often, I think that I have to be the one to make sure that people are listening and following Jesus. I think that I have to do all the work to make sure that people are growing in their relationship with Jesus, but God does that.
God is the only one who gives growth. We may be a small part in planting or watering, but God, and God alone, produces growth.
I think when I want to be the one doing the growth, I start to have the mindset of Nero. I want to be like God. I want to be the savior. I want to act and do the things He does so that people will call me the savior. But God calls us to humility in planting and watering. God deserves the credit. God is the one working life change. If God isn't in it, it won't happen. God changes hearts. God does the growth. We play a small part. And I am so thankful that I even get to play that small part, especially through places like houseboats!!
Stoked to see you all soon!

Thanks for the awesome reminder, Collin! It's so refreshing to remember that we are just called to be faithful, God produces the growth. We put this false sense of responsibility on ourselves to make change happen (esp w/ those Barns!) but we are called to love Jesus and be faithful. Thank goodness!
ReplyDeleteWow Collin- that is a crazy juxtaposition - I want to be like God, but mutilate that desire by trying to BE God. In that I wind up as Nero...
ReplyDelete"Mindset of Nero" -- Goth Band name of the Month for sure. Way to keep it visceral Collin. Definitely felt you punch violent self-possession in the face with that take on the message!!
