"Hi my name is Kyler"
"Nice to meet you Tyler"
As Darrel discussed the value in calling God by the name YHWY, I thought about how true that must be. My parents named me the lovely name Kyler and when people call me by name, I feel known and loved. I think that this is a desire that humans have, and when we use the true name of YHWY to address our God, I think that it is a beautiful thing! I will respond to Tyler, I will respond to Kyle, I have even responded when people call me killer (that was a fun one). However, it is always something that if I will be spending a large amount of time with someone that I will eventually correct. I am confused by the idea that we don't even know if YHWY is being pronounced correctly. I could be calling YHWY a name similar to the name that YHWY identifies with, yet be completely pronouncing it wrong. It was also intriguing to think about the fact that god, shepard, lord, alpha, and omega are all just descriptions of a supreme being rather than a direct association with YHWY. I want to be more conscious about calling YHWY by name.
Darrel also reminded me of the Sonshine History Quiz as he talked about the two most important events in history as being when YHWY revealed his name in the OT and when the name of Jesus is revealed in the New Testament. I can think back to Barney training my first summer with Sonshine. Our culture and history as a ministry is unique and full of crazy powerful and important moments; however, the most important is the classic Sunday school answer, "JESUS!"
Jesus is so good and I need to lean into that more and more. Continually trusting the goodness of YHWY rather than my own hands.
I can TOTALLY relate with people calling me Arisa. Love the example!
